Calling on all Supporters of Smoke Free Air!
The current BOH proposal is a solid
clean indoor air regulation that eliminates smoking from nearly
all public establishments, with a few grandfathered exceptions for
smoking-dependent businesses such as hookah and cigar bars.
We support this proposed regulation. Even if the Board of Health does pass a good regulation,
we urge City Council to maintain the separate clean indoor air ordinance for Morgantown.
Why do we need two regulations? The biggest challenges to smoke free
air often come immediately after laws take effect. County
Commissions in some areas of WV have replaced Board of Health members
for the sole purpose of overturning smoking bans. Having a city
law in place adds an extra layer of protection.
