Getting Involved
It's easy to support
a smoke-free environment in Monongalia County. Here are some things you can do:
|
Get
the facts about the risks of tobacco smoke exposure
and understand your right to breathe
clean air. The CDC web site provides an excellent
overview.
Make
a commitment to patronize smoke-free businesses.
Be sure to thank them for protecting your health.
Please visit our smoke-free
dining page.
Stand
up! Tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers that you
proudly support a smoke-free Monongalia County.
Add your name to our Community Support page. Just send an email to support@smokefreemonc.org. We'll include a link to your business or organization web site.
Here
are some Sample
Speaking and Writing Points and Tips for
Writing Letters courtesy of Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights.
You might find them helpful.
Contact
your local Board of Health representatives
and tell them you support a smoke-free environment. The
mailing address is 453 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, WV 26505.
Or send them an email at info@monchd.org.
Attend a Board of Health meeting and tell the Board in person.
Meetings are held the last Thursday of the odd numbered months at 9:00 am
at the Health Department.
Wear our "I Support Smoke Free Air" sticker at Board of Health meetings. (We'll be happy to give you one.) A visible show of support will speak for itself -- even if you don't say a word.
Write a letter to the editor of the Dominion Post. The
address is Newsroom, The Dominion Post, 1251 Earl L Core Road,
Morgantown, WV 26505-6298. Or email your comments to newsroom@dominionpost.com.
Write a letter to the editor of the Daily Athenaeum at 284 Prospect
Street, Morgantown, WV 26506, or email da-editor@mail.wvu.edu.
Sign up for our email updates and
receive news and notices of upcoming events where you can express your support
for a Smoke Free Mon County.
Join Smoke Free Mon C and work directly with others who are dedicated to a smoke-free environment
in Monongalia County.
